While jumping into the minds and memories of people to see what makes them tick isn’t necessarily a new narrative idea, it’s hard not to argue that Christopher Nolan‘s “Inception” took that concept to the kind of blockbuster heights that few could’ve imagined. Which makes it all the more difficulty for similarly styled movies to play in that territory—they will forever been trying to reach that bar. So as much as we like Mark Strong, “Mindscape” just doesn’t stack up.
From Jaume Collet-Serra, who is producing this thing, the first trailer for the movie has dropped and frankly, it looks like your average TV police procedural goosed up with memory exploring. Anyway, the movie finds Strong playing a dude who takes on the case of an eighteen-year-old girl (Taissa Farmiga) and tries to find out if she’s a sociopath or a true victim. It’s pretty cornball stuff, not aided by some rather flat looking direction by Jorge Dorado, on what was clearly a limited budget.
There’s no release date yet for this one, but considering this is an international promo, we’d wager this is dropping overseas first. Watch below.
