After adjusting herself well to supporting comedy roles in “Friends with Kids” and “This is 40,” we were optimistic for more than a career detour for Megan Fox, but alas, Michael Bay has denied that wish. The director has lured her back with his delayed “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot and likely the character of April O’Neil, but now one involved party — the comic’s creator Peter Laird — remains pretty confused about the entire decision.
“TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!” Bay wrote on his website two weeks ago, signaling that whatever conflicts the two of them shared around the time of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” they’ve either buried the hatchet or filled the wound with enough money to make it better. Laird has some different views though, as he made clear when a fan asked him about Fox’s inclusion.
Admitting he only knows Fox through the “Transformers” films and “Jennifer’s Body,” Laird explained, “It may not be fair to judge her range of acting skills just from those three movies, but I think it is safe to say that there are probably hundreds of better choices for the role of April O’Neil [played by Judith Hoag in the 1990 film]. Of course, her name has promotional value, and maybe that’s what they want. Who knows? I can’t get myself too worked up about it.”
While not quite to the level of, say, an Alan Moore, Laird definitely grows colder on the project with every development — already expressing disappointment toward director Jonathan Liebesman – and we can’t say we disagree. However, look for “TMNT” to hit theatres May 16, 2014 for Bay and his Fox-led cast to try prove us wrong. [via JoBlo]
