Last fall, Ewan McGregor attached himself to the thriller “Son Of A Gun." While details at the time were scarce, now, with production starting soon in Australia, Deadline is reporting that the film has added three more actors to the cast.
The film, Julius Avery’s feature length directorial and screenwriting debut, has found its leading lady in Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who we picked last year as one of a dozen actresses poised to breakout. And indeed she did, giving memorable turns in both "A Royal Affair" and "Anna Karenina," a highlight in our wrap-up of 2012 movies. At this point, Vikander’s role is still unknown as plot details are still scarce, but the thriller is said to focus on a master criminal’s complicated relationship with his protegé, who is to be played by Brenton Thwaites (the upcoming “Maleficent”). Rounding out the newest additions to the cast is a frequent cast member of Baz Luhrmann’s films, including this year’s 3D adaptation of “The Great Gatsby,” Jacek Koman.
Though this marks Avery’s first feature-length film, his previous success include the Cannes Jury Prize-winning short “Jerrycan.” Shooting on “Son Of A Gun” is set to start production this spring in Australia. Check out the trailer for Avery’s short film right here.
