Ah, the body switch comedy. The genre tends to be unpredictable at the box office, and usually doesn't lead to blockbuster sized success, but these movies can bring in decent coin if made on the right budget, and they're the kind of material that's an easy sell for future play on endless TV reruns. And if you've got a property you can remake, why not, right?
That's probably the thinking over at DreamWorks who have announced they will be revamping the 1984 Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin comedy "All Of Me." Directed by Carl Reiner, it's not exactly fondly remembered, but the comedic potential is easy enough to see. The story centers on a dying millionaire who wants to attempt to get her soul transferred to the body of a young woman to whom she is leaving her fortune, but winds up inside her lawyer's body instead. Comedy ensues! Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein ("The Vow," "Never Been Kissed") are writing the script, and at one time this was set up at New Line as a potential Queen Latifah vehicle. Huh.
Anyway, this is all in very early stages but the the idea of the moment is to switch genders and have the man's soul enter the woman's body. Which is actually not a terrible idea. Check out the trailer for the original below. [THR]
