Watch: Nick Offerman Confronts Mary Elizabeth Winstead In Clip From Sundance Favorite 'Smashed'

"Smashed," a comedy-drama starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul that won the US Dramatic Special Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival (kind of a big deal), still doesn't have a trailer, even though it's being released by Sony Pictures Classics on October 12th. What it does have is a new clip, released by the studio's Twitter account, featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and one of the funniest men on planet earth, Nick Offerman.

In the brief scene, Offerman confronts Winstead about noticing her drinking, particularly as she told her class she's pregnant. What plays out is an incredibly awkward and gently moving scene in which she has to explain that she's not really pregant, she just told that to her kids because she was clammy and throwing up.

"Smashed" concerns a married couple (Paul and Winstead) who are alcoholics and trying to sort their lives out. It co-stars Octavia Spencer, Offerman's real-life wife Megan Mullally, Mary Kay Place, Bree Turner, and Kyle Gallner. Our man at Sundance called the film "strong and stirring." We look forward to the film, if only because we feel like Winstead is a super-strong talent who rarely gets the opportunity to showcase her considerable skill. But between this and upcoming roles in the Adam Scott/Amy Poehler vehicle "A.C.O.D" and Roman Coppola's long, long, long awaited return "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," it seems like she's on the upswing.

"Smashed" opens in limited release on October 12th
