While much of the talk about Lars von Trier's upcoming sex epic (sexic?) "Nymphomaniac" has concerned the real life sex scenes the prickly auteur is insisting the film contain, (to blur or not to blur, that is the question!), the two-part movie is also amassing an impressive cast who are set to potentially bone each other, among them Shia LaBeouf, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielson and von Trier's current muse Charlotte Gainsbourg. You can now add frequent von Trier collaborator Udo Kier to the cast of characters. We sincerely hope he will keep his clothes on, though.
While chatting with Dread Central about his silly Nazis-on-the-moon movie "Iron Sky," Kier got to talking about his favorite directors, including von Trier. Kier most recently co-starred in last year's achingly beautiful "Melancholia," giving the movie some of its few laughs as a frazzled wedding planner (Kier gliding by Kirsten Dunst and refusing to make eye contact was a highlight). He told the site, "The last one was 'Melancholia,' and I’m off now to Germany to play a part in 'Nymphomania' with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Nicole Kidman and the nice boy from the 'Transformers;' he is playing in it. So that is my next step."
We love Kier calling LaBeouf "the nice boy from the 'Transformers'" almost as much as we like it when he says, "This whore's blood is killing me" in "Blood of Dracula." ALMOST. It's unknown what part Kier will play, but considering the movie is structured as an epic series of flashbacks, where the audience charts Gainsbourg's not insubstantial sexual history through the years, perhaps he'll play a past paramour.
"Nymphomaniac," which started shooting in Germany last week, is set for released sometime in 2013.
