Sorry, Will Smith fans. While the Agent J has written two certifiable classic songs, "Men In Black," and "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)," the latter song of which features TRÂ-Knox, sadly, Big Willie Style won't be recording a theme song for "Men In Black 3" or "MIB3," (curiously, the film seems to have shied away from the 'MIB3D' title as the 3D fad fades into the background and becomes the relative norm).
Instead, Smith will step aside and let rapper/singer/producer Pitbull take the reins. Two months before the film hits theaters on May 25th, Pitbull's "Back In Time" will be released as a radio and digital single on Monday March 26. No word on the rest of the soundtrack, but composer Danny Elfman is back to fulfill the musical scoring duties of the trilogy.
"My 19-year-old daughter turned me on to Pitbull. I'm thrilled that he wrote such a great song for our movie that totally gets it," director Barry Sonnenfeld said in a press release (lol). Pitbull apparently sampled Mickey & Sylvia's 1950s hit "Love is Strange" for the new song, which tips its cap to the time travel theme in the movie. You know what's astonishing? The original "Men in Black" soundtrack sold 3.1 million copies in the U.S. according to SounScan. Frightening. Well, if you're gonna miss those Will Smith songs, we've conveniently placed them below, but we know you're already rocking them on your iPod on a daily basis in anticipation of this epic new film.
No date is set for the "MIB3" soundtrack yet. The film stars Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin (as a young Tommy Lee Jones), plus newcomers to the franchise Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Bill Hader and Michael Stuhlbarg among others. [Billboard]
