So, if you're a relatively unknown French electronic dance act, looking to get some buzz, hiring a Hollywood actor and getting him to kill a bunch of people in a nonsensical video is a pretty good way to go. That's pretty much what The Shoes have done in their slick but totally empty video for "Time To Dance" which features Jake Gyllenhaal mercilessly killing a bunch of people…all to the soundtrack of some hype beats!
We will say this. The spot directed by Daniel Wolfe is very skillfully done, with some fantastic editing and cutting — the sequence of Gyllenhaal's killer getting a shave is more chilling than the copious amounts of blood spilled throughout the video. That said, during its worst moments, this plays like Gaspar Noé-lite or like any number of videos which take us to various party spots, and feature young people dancing the night away only in this case, with a good handful getting slaughtered.
This isn't Gyllenhaal's first time in a video, as he also featured in the (much better) Vampire Weekend spot for "Giving Up The Gun" (watch it here). Anyhow, if ever wanted to see Gyllenhaal get murderous, watch below. Probably not a good idea to put this one on at the office though.
