After years in development, the "RoboCop" franchise is finally booted back up and ready to return. With "Elite Squad" Jose Padilha at the helm and "The Killing" star Joel Kinnaman newly minted as the man in the robot suit, MGM is ready to get this thing rolling, and has pegged a release date for the movie.
"RoboCop" will clean up the streets on August 9, 2013. With Sony now distributing the film, it falls in line with their plan of recent years to drop genre offerings in late summer. 2010 and 2011 saw "The Other Guys" and "30 Minutes Or Less" in that frame, while this year will see "Total Recall" nab the slot. Currently, no other movies are scheduled on that weekend, but that will certainly change. Meanwhile, Sony has decided their big Christmas movie in 2013 will be "Cloudy 2: Revenge Of The Leftovers" as it will arrive on December 20, 2013 — just one week after "The Hobbit: There And Back Again."
Finally, for you horror buffs, Magnolia Pictures will send this year's Sundance horror omnibus "V/H/S" to VOD on August 31st, with a limited theatrical bow on October 5th. Featuring segments directed by Adam Wingard, Ti West, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg and Radio Silence the film received solid reviews and we said it "delivers the thrills and chills craftily and with a better batting average than usual."
