After three in-depth "Paradise Lost" documentaries (by filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky), countless bouts of media coverage, benefit concerts, awareness campaigns and more, is another movie about the plight of the now freed (but still legally guilty) West Memphis Three needed? Well, it seems the answer is yes, and as the trailer for the forthcoming "West Of Memphis" displays, even if you know everything about the story, it's no less fascinating or compelling.
Produced by longtime advocate and supporter Peter Jackson (along with Damien Echols) and directed by Amy Berg, the lenthy trailer has arrived, and it looks like a comprehensive overview of the case that has changed opinions, rocked a state and seen witnesses change sides. The big question here will be whether or not Jackson and Echols can remain objective in their approach, balancing both sides of the story, even though they'll be coming from a clearly stated position. But with the film set to run a healthy two-and-a-half hours, there will be plenty of time to explore the nuances and varioius intrigues of the case.
"West Of Memphis" premieres at Sundance next week. No distribution lined up yet, but that will probably be locked down soon enough. Trailer and EW debuted poster below.
