Jake Gyllenhaal Joins Ryan Reynolds & Rebecca Ferguson In Sci-Fi 'Life' From 'Deadpool' Writers

Demolition“If with ‘Deadpool‘ the goal was to make you laugh, with ‘Life’ the goal is to make you sweat,” co-writer Rhett Reese recently told us about the movie he penned with Paul Wernick. The duo, who are still basking in the smash success of "Deadpool," move in a totally different direction with their upcoming sci-fi flick, and it just got a whole lot more interesting with this latest cast addition.

Jake Gyllenhaal is joining Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in the project. Daniel Espinosa ("Snabba Cash," "Safe House") is directing "Life," which centers on the crew of an international space station who come across life from Mars that is more intelligent than expected. Judging by what Reese teases, what they find perhaps won’t be too friendly.

It’s a heckuva trio for this one, and fingers crossed it lives up to the potential, and that Espinosa can finally get back on track, especially after flopping with last year’s "Child 44." As for Gyllenhaal, you can see him next in "Demolition," which opens on April 8th, and he’s slated to shoot the Boston Marathon bombing pic "Stronger" this year. Hopefully Joon Bong Ho‘s "Okja" is still happening too. [Variety]
