Hopefully, you’ve been having a nice, relaxing, light summer because when fall starts, Amazon will be dropping a new, original series that looks to be quite grim. The series is “The Man in the High Castle” and it has a premise so intriguing, it will be tough to resist the temptation to binge watch. The show is an adaptation of the Philip K. Dick novel which takes a look at an alternate history of America and asks the question: what would this country look like if America lost WWII? The novel, as well as this upcoming series, explores a nation that’s divided between Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany and wonders what daily life would be like for Americans ruled by an iron fist.
Ridley Scott is one of the producers of the series, which stars Rufus Sewell, Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, and DJ Qualls. The pilot for “The Man in the High Castle” already premiered on Amazon back in January and can be still be watched for free. The pilot was picked up for a series after the episode turned out to be the highest watched Amazon show since the website began streaming original content. If the rest of the series manages to match the enthusiastic response of the pilot, then Amazon could really have a genuine hit on their hands.
The first trailer for the series was unveiled by Amazon at Comic-Con this past weekend and can be viewed just below. As evidenced by the image of a red, white, and blue-striped flag with the Nazi symbol in the top corner, this really looks like it should be a unique and somewhat unsettling viewing experience.
