DC Comics‘ first major kick at Supergirl can came in 1984 with the feature length film that is hardly remembered fondly. It has taken the company over thirty years to reintroduce the character to the big or small screen in a major way, but that all changes with CBS‘ "Supergirl," and the first look has now arrived.
Melissa Benoist ("Glee") puts on the uniform for this new attempt at the superhero, and according to three time Oscar winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, the idea is to bring Linda Danvers into the contemporary age. “In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,” she said. To me, it just looks like they took the design from "Man Of Steel" and retrofitted it for the needs of the television show. But overall, it evokes the classic look and it works.
Mehcad Brooks (Jimmy Olsen), Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), Chyler Leigh (Alexandra “Alex” Danvers), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw), Faran Tahir (The Commander), Dean Cain and Helen Slater (both in unspecified roles) also feature in the show. No word yet on an air date, but production is underway. Take a closer look at "Supergirl" below.
