James Gunn Says Marvel Is Skipping The 2015 San Diego Comic-Con

Guardians Of The Galaxy, James GunnThe San Diego Comic-Con is the annual nerd blowout in which passes are sold out within hours, hotels booked as far as a year in advance, and like-minded fans from around the world congregate to celebrate big, new announcements from the giants of genre. But this year, one of the major fan favorites is reportedly skipping the event altogether.

During a live Facebook Q&A, when asked if he’d be in San Diego, "Guardians Of The Galaxy" director James Gunn stated: "I’m not sure. Marvel isn’t going so I’m not sure I will either."

It’s pretty big news, as there was already some chatter the comic company would unveil the new Spider-Man at the event. But this is also not unprecedented. The company announced their big Phase Three plans last fall on their own, and our guess is that this year, they will be saving more details on their upcoming slate at Disney‘s bi-annual D23 conference in August. But this is still a blow to fans who were hoping to catch a glimpse of their superhero faves in San Diego.

However, this might be an opportunity for Warner Bros. to slide in and talk about their DC movies without worrying about having their thunder stolen or battling for the spotlight with their rivals. And the same goes for Fox who have a number of comic fan friendly projects on the horizon. But were you planning to hit San Diego? What are your thoughts? Let us know below. [via JoBlo]
