Mark Millar Says 'Iron Man 2' & 'Thor: The Dark World' Were "Misfires," But He's Glad Spider-Man Is "Coming Home" To Marvel

Iron Man 2 Thor: The Dark WorldIt feels like the growing excitement/hysteria about Spider-Man — whose new solo movie will be written and directed by Drew Goddard — needs to be tempered a bit, particularly the chatter of where the character might pop up first. Indeed, it’s widely expected he’ll appear in some form or another in "Captain America: Civil War," but comic writer Mark Millar is a bit amused about how much clamoring there is for Peter Parker to pop by given his ultimately small role in the story.

“It’s funny though, people always keep saying to me that you can’t do Civil War without Spider-Man, but in the comics he’s only in 6 pages," he told IGN (see the video below). That said, he’s glad the character is back in Marvel’s hands, even if according to Millar their track record isn’t perfect.

"What’s great about Spider-Man coming back, from someone who was baffled by the last two Spider-Man movies, is that this feels like Spider-Man coming home," Millar explains. "It’s not like Marvel can do no wrong, I mean ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ wasn’t very good and ‘Iron Man 2‘ wasn’t very good, they have their misfires. But Spider-Man is the holy grail for them. And all eyes are on them now.”

And he’s not wrong. Yes, it’s a good thing Spider-Man is going to Marvel but let’s hope they do it right (frankly, the word that Sinister Six are going to appear already feels like it’s going to repeat the too-many-characters approach of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2").
