It has been a very good year for horror fans tired of pointless remakes and low-budget found footage flicks. Away from the studio system we’ve seen the Aussie horror "The Babadook" earn major acclaim, "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night" is a future cult classic in the making, and David Robert Mitchell‘s "It Follows" created major buzz at Cannes Critics’ Week, where it premiered, and at Fantastic Fest, where it picked up Next Wave awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay. And now, the first international teaser trailer is here and it’s great stuff.
Starring the breakthrough Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Olivia Luccardi, and Lili Sepe, the film comes loaded with a clever concept: after a romantic date, a teenage girl gets infected by a sexually transmitted haunting. By daylight, she is terrorized by phantoms only she can see, and whose sole mission is to kill her. The cure? Passing along the disease to someone else. Damn. Needless to say, we said this "worked like gangbusters as an exercise in atmosphere and allusion" when we saw it at Cannes, and it’s sure to cause more buzz when it opens next year.
"It Follows" arrives in France on February 4th. Radius has the U.S. rights, but no date has been set just yet.
