“ ‘Deadpool‘ is still alive, and we’re just waiting for the studio to embrace what an amazingly fucking awesome film this would be,” director Tim Miller said last fall. “Ryan [Reynolds] is ready, I am ready, the fans are more than ready, we just need that elusive green light.” And while that thumbs up from the powers that be still awaits (though producer Lauren Shuler Donner did say this year she wants to a "Deadpool" movie—though we doubt it’s this specific one), we can now see what a Miller-directed, Reynolds-starring movie might look like.
Test footage circa 2012 for "Deadpool" has leaked online (and we presume will be yanked shortly) showing the very talkative "Merc With A Mouth" in action, and doing the kind of stuff he probably should’ve been doing in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where he was largely muzzled. It’s mostly CGI (though voiced by Reynolds) and don’t be too harsh on it, because it’s really just to show executives an idea of tone and feel. It’s certainly edgy, but we’ll wait to see if Fox wants to pull the trigger on what’s a pretty audacious idea in a climate of four-quadrant superhero movies.
“The script is probably available online, it leaked,” Miller said last year about this R-rated take. “But it’s very meta, I mean the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, it’s kind of a risky property. But, you know, we’ll see.”
Indeed, we will. Until then, here’s the footage. Enjoy it while you can. [JoBlo]
