Fantasia Exclusive: The 'Dealer' Gets An Order In Clip From French Crime Thriller

DealerDrug dealers, lowlifes and the gritty streets they operate on have been the backdrop to many crime thrillers, but filmmaker Jean Luc Herbulot puts his own mark on the genre with "Dealer." An independent film shot outside the studio system in France, it’s inspired by the real life of lead actor Dan Bronchinson, bringing a level of authenticity to the movie that makes its World Premiere this week at the Fantasia Film Festival.

"Dealer" tells the tale tells of Dan, who is trying to stay on the straight and narrow after spending a lifetime dealing cocaine. A lucrative one last deal could bring him the means to achieve his dream of moving to Australia with his daughter, but Dan is soon on a 24-hour downward spiral back into the world he tried to leave behind, and he’ll have to survive and save his daughter at all costs. “I wanted to explore the energy of despair. When the odds are against you and there is no way out but you still have to fight,” Herbulot explained. “I also wanted to show how one life can change in a day with one action. The dreams you thought were accessible become inaccessible and your allies become your worst enemies.”

Below, you can see an exclusive clip from "Dealer" where the ball is set in motion for what’s to come. The film screens on Tuesday, July 29th at the DB Clarke Theatre at the Fantasia Film Festival.
