'Mission: Impossible 5' Recruits Alec Baldwin And Female Lead

Alec BaldwinSo if you wondering why studios still spend hundreds of million of dollars on Tom Cruise projects, there’s a simple reason — he’s still a massive international star. While "Edge Of Tomorrow" didn’t even crack $100 million stateside, overseas it hauled in $248 million. So if you’re wondering if Paramount is hesitating to pull the trigger on "Mission: Impossible 5," the answer is "no."

In fact, Alec Baldwin is now in talks for the film with Golden Globe nominee Rebecca Ferguson ("The White Queen") landing the female lead in the Christopher McQuarrie directed picture. Of course, there are no plot details yet, but Baldwin will play the head of the CIA. And the "30 Rock" star has lots more cooking. He’ll be joining the Will Smith starring, Ridley Scott produced football concussion drama, and he’s developing a TV series for NBC in which he’d play the Rob Ford-esque mayor of New York City. And yes, we would definitely watch that.

So, Baldwin is busy and ‘M:I5’ is coming on Christmas Day 2015. [Deadline/Deadline]
