Watch: Tom Hanks Is Back As Robert Langdon In First Trailer For 'Inferno'

As Paramount has shown with Jack Ryan and the upcoming TV series starring John Krasinski, there are some characters whose potential and brand value are so good, it’s worth trying to keep them alive. And so it goes with Robert Langdon, the lead character in Dan Brown‘s best-selling airport paperback thrillers, who we haven’t seen on the big screen since 2009’s “Angels & Demons,” which didn’t earn quite the same numbers as the $758 million worldwide gross of “The Da Vinci Code,” but still did $485 million globally. Do audiences still care about Langdon? Certainly, he doesn’t have the pop culture presence he once enjoyed, but never count out Tom Hanks to put butts in the seats.

The actor is back with director Ron Howard for “Inferno.” Felicity Jones co-stars in this one that finds everyone’s favorite symbologist suffering from amnesia, and diving into a mystery involving Dante. Here’s the synopsis:

Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.

Also featuring Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Ben Foster, and Sidse Babett Knudsen, “Inferno” opens on October 28th. Watch the new trailer above.
