At the ripe ol’ age of 27 years old, French Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan has made six features with a seventh on the way (that stars an actress you might know named Jessica Chastain). And from minute one, the young filmmaker became a media darling and a Cannes regular.

His debut feature “I Killed My Mother” played in the Directors’ Fortnight program and after several entries in sidebars or Venice, his 2014 film “Mommy” was the first film to play in Competition at Cannes. His latest, “It’s Only the End of the World” finds him in competition at Cannes once again, and we’ll presume he’ll appear as a competition mainstay for the foreseeable future.
What’s interesting is that for all his international acclaim, ‘End Of The World’ is his first non-independent film and his first with stars. Based on the play “Juste la fin du monde” by Jean-Luc Lagarce, Dolan’s film — which he directed, wrote and edited — stars Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Gaspard Ulliel and Nathalie BayeIt.

Already scheduled for a release in Quebec and France on September 21st, the plot centers on a terminally ill writer who returns home after 12 years of absence to announce his impending death to his family. A reunion filled with doubts and tensions ensues.
We’ve already seen two clips from the film, and it’s easily one of our most anticipated films from the festival. Thus some new photos for the film have arrived and they’re getting us even more stoked for the idea of Cotillard, Seydoux and Vincent Cassel in a Xavier Dolan film. Will his films change with stars in them? Given the material that hews close to his own stories of family drama, we highly doubt it. Check out the photos below.
