It’s not yet clear whether Jamie Dornan will be able to escape the shadow of “Fifty Shades Of Grey,” or be overtaken by it. Dornan has other affairs — winning acclaim for playing a serial murderer in “The Fall” — but he’s best known as Christian Grey for sure, and that’s even before the first sequel to the S&M franchise arrives in February.

But Dornan’s starting to show some of the roles he’s landed since — WW2 movie “Anthropoid” did ok, “The 9th Life Of Louis Drax,” which just opened last week, slightly less so. But Dornan’s biggest lead role to date might be in “The Siege Of Jadotville,” a new Netflix Original Movie that just dropped its first trailer.
The film’s based on a true story, set in 1961, when 3000 Congolese troops, led by French mercenaries working for mining companies, besieged a mostly Irish battalion of the U.N. Dornan plays the leader of the Irish men, with Guillaume Canet as his Gallic adversary, and Mark Strong, Jason O’Mara, Mikael Persbrandt, Sam Keeley and Michael McElhatton also among the cast, in a film directed by newcomer Richie Smythe.
It could be a gripping modern war movie, but it could also be a queasily racist spin on “Zulu.” Either way, we’ll be finding out soon — the film will be in theaters on September 19th, before hitting Netflix on October 7th.
