Denzel Washington is showing off two sides to his A-list stardom this fall. First, there’s “The Magnificent Seven” remake (our review), which sees him in blockbuster mode, directed by his frequent collaborator Antoine Fuqua. And then in December, he returns behind the camera to helm his first film in nearly a decade with “Fences,” and it’ll be aiming for Oscar glory. And the first trailer will showcase whether or not it’s got the goods.

Washington also stars in the picture, along with Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Willimason, and Saniyya Sidney, in the adaptation of August Wilson‘s Pulitzer Prize winning play that follows a former African-American baseball player in the 1950s, who lives in regret of never having been able to play professionally in the majors, since the color barrier had yet to be broken in the sport. Both Washington and Davis won Tony Awards for their performances in the stage play, so expectations are high that they’ll carry over the magic on film.
“Fences” opens on December 25th.
