It’s taken a moment for Marc Webb to recover from the disappointment of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (a film that still made $700-something million, but fell well short of Sony’s $1 billion wish). But the director lives to fight another day, no matter the franchise flop.
The “(500) Days Of Summer” director is back for Fox Searchlight’s “Gifted,” a film about a man who tries to raise the brilliant young daughter of his dead sister. Starring Captain America himself, Chris Evans, the drama also co-stars McKenna Grace, Lindsay Duncan, Jenny Slate and Octavia Spencer. Here’s the official synopsis:
Frank Adler (Evans) is a single man trying to raise a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (McKenna Grace) – in a costal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.
