While many might bemoan Disney‘s constant stream of reboots and sequels, you do have to at least credit the studio for taking the time to get it right (most of the time). Look how long it took them to release “Finding Nemo” sequel “Finding Dory.” The result? A movie that could very easily wind up earning $1 billion worldwide. They do care very much about doing justice to their properties, and while “Wreck-It Ralph” doesn’t seem like an immediate candidate for a sequel, the number crunchers at the studio likely deemed it worthy, and indeed, it’s happening.

Disney has announced that “Wreck-It Ralph 2” (not the official title) will arrive on March 9, 2018. It’s the date that was originally set for Disney‘s brewing animated flick “Gigantic,” but it’s safe to say that one is probably being pushed back. At any rate, the new movie will find Ralph moving from the world of video games to the internet.
“This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again,” said co-director Rich Moore.
“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope,” added co-director Phil Johnston. “The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”
John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman will reprise their voice roles for the flick, which given Disney’s track record lately, is sure to be a monster hit.
