Oscar Winners Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross Scoring Peter Berg's 'Patriots Day'

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have scored three narrative movies together. All three have been for director David Fincher; “The Social Network,” “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and “Gone Girl.” Their score for “The Social Network” earned them the Best Original Score Oscar. Today, director Peter Berg revealed that the duo are reuniting and composing music for their first film for a director other than Fincher, with “Patriots Day.”

Berg’s currently watching the box office for his latest release, “Deepwater Horizon,” which opened nationwide on Friday. He’s also in the editing room finishing up “Patriots Day,” a film centered on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. The film stars Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons and Michelle Monaghan.  The arrival of Reznor and Ross to the project will likely transform it from a stealth Oscar contender to a highly anticipated awards-season player.

The Original Score category is already an intriguing play this season with a ton of relative newcomers such as “La La Land“‘s Justin Hurwitz, “Moonlight”‘s Nicholas Britell, “Lion“‘s Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka and “Jackie“‘s Mica Levi all circling for a nomination.

“Patriots Day” opens in limited release on Dec. 21 and then expands nationwide on Jan. 13.
