James Franco & Bryan Cranston Battle In New Red Band Trailer For 'Why Him?'

Bryan Cranston spent the ’90s building what would ultimately be his nest egg thanks to his role in the long running sitcom, “Malcolm In The Middle.” However, with “Breaking Bad,” the actor showed he had a lot more to offer, and ever since, he’s been doing everything from drug running dramas (“The Infiltrator“) to playing presidents (“All The Way“) to making biopics (“Trumbo“). But now he’s reteaming with James Franco, who he worked with on “In Dubious Battle,” for “Why Him?” a comedy that already feels pretty dated.

Co-written and directed by John Hamburg (“Along Came Polly,” “I Love You, Man“), the movie follows a whiz kid, tech world millionaire who is wildly unconventional, who tries to win over the stuffed shirt father of his girlfriend. Trouble in paradise follows, here’s the official synopsis:

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned’s panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

“Why Him?” opens on Christmas Day.
