Mark Wahlberg Hunts For Terrorists In First Trailer For 'Patriots Day'

The 2013 Boston Marathon bombing left a mark on the national soul, and was a jarring reminder that the war on terror isn’t just something that happens outside our own borders. The event has seen Hollywood eager to take on the story, with the David Gordon Green-directed “Stronger” starring Jake Gyllenhaal arriving next year. But beating them to the punch is director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg, who will be hitting the awards season with “Patriots Day.”

Co-starring John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan, the film takes place in the wake of the terror attack, and sees Wahlberg join in the intense manhunt to find the culprits behind the horrific crime. Here’s the official synopsis:

In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant TOMMY SAUNDERS (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent RICHARD DESLAURIERS (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner ED DAVIS (John Goodman), Sergeant JEFFREY PUGLIESE (J.K. Simmons) and nurse CAROL SAUNDERS (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston.

“Patriots Day” opens in limited release on December 21st and goes wide on January 13, 2017.
