The months of waiting are over, and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is here. Or at least it was for audiences in Los Angeles last night where the world premiere was held. Reactions from the Gareth Edwards-directed film, bolstered by the story fixes and additional direction of Tony Gilroy, seem to be extremely positive. One of the more hilarious comments, perhaps without irony, said, “’Rogue One’ is the best Star Wars movie since ‘The Force Awakens‘” (pssst, it’s the only one since ‘Force Awakens’). And don’t dismiss those reshoots — they were extensive and they helped save the movie.

“There were a ton of reshoots. But if people want to read anything into that, I’d encourage them to read into it the guts it takes to unpick stitching rather than just try to embroider over it, to make it right,” Riz Ahmed told the Los Angeles Times of the decision made to comprehensively rework the film. “I admire [Lucasfilm President] Kathleen [Kennedy] and Gareth [Edwards] and the whole team for having the guts to go, ‘Let’s reopen this. Let’s do some of this again.’ I think it’s because they really care – and hopefully that’s something that shows when people see the film.”
The movie is apparently tracking towards a $280 million-$350 million next weekend globally, and that’s what Disney wants to hear. Here’s reactions from the film, including from our Awards Campaign guru Gregory Ellwood. Meanwhile, three new clips and lots of featurettes from the movie have been released as well. Check it all out below.

… there is a complexity that exists in rogue one that I have never seen in another Star Wars film- layers and layers of gray.

Star Wars fans will be very happy with #RogueOne. It's fun, action packed, doesn't feel neutered by reshoots. Donnie Yen and K2so standouts.
