So far, 2017 has been a pretty exceptional year for superhero movies, with “Logan,” “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Wonder Woman” all earning raves and strong box office, and arguably for doing something different than usual. The latter picture is the first female fronted superhero movie in years, ‘Vol 2.’ stayed true to all the elements that make it stand out from the rest of the Marvel pack, while “Logan” pivoted Wolverine into an adult-oriented, gritty drama. And in the case of the mutant movie, director James Mangold took things further, stripping the film nearly entirely X-Men, and creating a relationship story between the clawed hero, and a young girl, played by newcomer Dafne Keen. However, a more famous face was considered for that X-23 role.
“Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown revealed in an interview with Evan Rachel Wood for Variety that she tried out for “Logan,” and while she didn’t land the gig, it marked a unique milestone in her career.
“I went for it. It meant so much to me. I was filming ‘Stranger Things,’ and I was like, ‘This is gonna be amazing, I’m gonna really prepare,’ and I sat in my room reading the lines. And honestly, for me, I felt so – I felt an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and James Mangold [with lines] sitting right in front of me,” she said.
Nifty little story, but Mangold definitely made the right choice with Keen, who was exceptional in the role. Check out the interview and Keen’s audition tape below.
