Samuel L. Jackson Confirmed For 'Captain Marvel'

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury knocking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A frequent star of the early phase films, the last time the character popped by was in “Avengers: Of Ultron,” and needless to say, a lot has happened in that universe since. The character will return in next year’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” and it seems that will just be the start of what could be his return to action.

With rumors swirling around the interwebs for days, Deadline has confirmed that Jackson will be in “Captain Marvel.” Brie Larson is set to play the hero in the movie that will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson,” “Sugar“), but it’s not clear yet how Nick Fury will factor into the story. But hopefully, Marvel has something more interesting than simply replicating the buddy dynamic at the center of this week’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Filming on “Captain Marvel” is slated to begin in early 2018, and the movie will be released on March 8, 2019.
