Frank Ocean is currently on tour, bringing his jams from Blonde and beyond with him. However, cinephiles might want to keep their ear to the ground, because a director with a rich history in music videos has been seen tagging along.
Spike Jonze (“Being John Malkovich,” “Her“) has been spotted filming Ocean’s concerts at FYF Fest in Los Angeles and Lovebox festival in London, and that’s not all. At FYF, none other than Brad Pitt showed up in a cameo during the performance of “Close To You”/”Never Can Say Goodbye.”
The actor revealed himself to be a fan Ocean’s in GQ earlier this year, saying, “I’ve been listening to a lot of Frank Ocean. I find this young man so special. Talk about getting to the raw truth. He’s painfully honest. He’s very, very special. I can’t find a bad one.” Clearly, Ocean got the message.
It hasn’t yet been revealed that the Jonze/Ocean project might be, and whether or not Pitt is involved, but clearly something is brewing. Last year, as part of the release of Blonde, Ocean launched the zine “Boys Don’t Cry,” which included in its pages a list of his 100 favorite films — and he’s got some serious, auteur taste. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what this collaboration yields. [The Guardian]
