It’s not a pairing that would immediately come to our mind, but we have to admit we’re intrigued by the combination of director Brad Anderson (“Session 9,” “Vanishing On 7th Street“) and screenwriter Tony Gilroy (“Michael Clayton,” the ‘Bourne‘ series). Toss in a pretty first rate cast, and ’70s spy intrigue, and we’re very, very curious to see how this will all turn out.
“Beirut” stars Jon Hamm, Rosamund Pike, Dean Norris, Larry Pine, and Shea Whigham in the story of a U.S. diplomat who is pulled back into action by the CIA, even though the real truth of the mission eludes him. Here’s the official synopsis:
Mason Skiles (Jon Hamm), a top U.S. diplomat, left Lebanon in the 1970s after a tragic incident. Ten years later, the CIA calls him back to a war-torn Beirut with a mission only he can accomplish. Meanwhile, a CIA field agent who is working undercover at the American embassy is tasked with keeping Skiles alive and ensuring that the mission is a success. Without knowing who is on his side and with lives on the line, Skiles must outmaneuver everyone to expose the truth.
“Beirut” will make its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and opens on April 13th.
