While other mega-franchises have dwindled their appeal and relevance over the years (“Terminator“, “Pirates of the Caribbean”) the ‘Mission Impossible’ films, based on the television show by Bruce Geller, remains an anomaly that has grown in box office profit and critical popularity with each new installment.
Now comes “Mission Impossible: Fallout,” the sixth and newest picture in this series. The biggest news of ‘Fallout’ to come out recently, of course has been star Tom Cruise‘s horrific, ankle-breaking injury (watch it here) he suffered from doing one of his own stunts. Filmed around the world, including in London, New Zealand, India and Norway, “Mission Impossible: Fallout” finds Cruise’s Ethan Hunt once again dealing with shady characters from his past, but this time facing the threat of nuclear annihilation.
“Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” director, Christopher McQuarrie, returns for the newest addition in this series. While ‘Fallout’ promises to deliver on the action we’ve come to expect, McQuarrie states that ‘Fallout’ will focus more on characters than the previous films. “I started with more of an emotional story for this character and more of a character arc within it. It’s definitely more of an emotional journey for Ethan Hunt in that movie,” McQuarrie explained in an interview with Collider. Here’s the official synopsis:
The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
‘Fallout’ stars Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby, Michelle Monaghan Angela Bassett, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames. Written and directed by McQuarrie, the film is slated to be released on July 27th.
