The career of actor/writer/director/goofball Seth Rogen is pretty incredible. Starting as an actor working on just about anything Judd Apatow invited him on, Rogen now has a production company that keeps putting out hit after hit. Rogen is hoping to keep that streak going with his newest project, a U.S. remake of the British comedy “Plebs.”
According to Deadline, Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures, which he runs with Evan Goldberg, is working on an American adaptation of the popular British comedy series. “Plebs” follows a trio of Romans, Marcus, Stylax, and Grumio, and the hijinks the three get into. Deadline describes the series as “’The Inbetweeners’ set in ancient Rome.” While we don’t normally go for American versions of British comedies (they normally turn out like garbage), this has potential solely based on Rogen and Goldberg leading the way.
Rogen and Goldberg have had a pretty incredible run of success recently, with “Neighbors,” “Sausage Party,” and most recently, “The Disaster Artist.” That doesn’t include the recent TV success they’ve had with the highly-underrated “Preacher” on AMC. If anything is proof that Rogen and Goldberg know what they’re doing, it’s “Preacher,” which is based on a comic book series that was long-thought to be completely unfilmable.
“Plebs” was created by writers Sam Leifer and Tom Basden, and is now in production of its fourth season. Judging by the description of the upcoming fourth season, which includes the a toilet and a hot new Roman bar called The Crown and Toga, “Plebs” looks like a series that everyone should take a look at. Also, as we know, it’s important to impress your friends when the American version comes out, and you can say, “Meh, the British show is better.”
No word on casting or a network for the Rogen-produced version of the series. However, with Rogen’s IMDB page looking pretty stacked with projects at the moment, “Plebs” could be a little further away than we hope.
