With “Solo: A Star Wars Story” officially upon us, we can (hopefully) put all the drama and speculation about the spin-off film behind us and focus on the future of the Lucasfilm franchise. Yesterday, we found out that “Logan” helmer James Mangold is stepping aboard to co-write and direct a Boba Fett spin-off film, and we already know about a live-action TV series, ‘Episode IX,’ and a new trilogy from Rian Johnson. There’s also that little news that dropped earlier this year that the duo behind “Game of Thrones” were developing their own series of “Star Wars” films.
Nothing is really known about what David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have cooked up for their entries in the “Star Wars” universe. However, one person that might have an inkling of what we can expect when the duo turns their attention from Westeros to the galaxy far, far away is Emilia Clarke. The actress, who can now be seen in ‘Solo,’ stars in the hit HBO series and was recently asked what she thought about the writers taking a stab at “Star Wars.”
In an interview with Variety, Clarke was asked what she thinks audiences can expect from Benioff and Weiss’ “Star Wars:”
“[They’ll bring] what they brought to fantasy as a genre people are appreciating on a much grander scale. Putting all that creativity, all of that skill and all of that intellect into something that already is, or has, so much. I think it’s just going to be ‘Star Wars’ on acid. It will be amazing. I can’t wait.”
Now, as we’ve discussed before, Clarke is always good for a quote or two, and she doesn’t disappoint here. “Star Wars” on acid? Yes, please! If anything, we can hope that Benioff and Weiss bring their world-building and strong character work to the “Star Wars” universe. And if they want to change things up and make it a bit trippier, then all the better!
The duo is currently wrapping up the final season of “Game of Thrones,” so it doesn’t appear like we’ll get any news on their “Star Wars” film slate until next year, at the earliest.
