'It Follows' Writer David Robert Mitchell To Pen Horror Film About A Killer Sound

Despite our early Cannes review, I’m still pretty excited for David Robert Mitchell’sUnder the Silver Lake.” Sure, it is getting pretty mixed reviews, but I just really love “It Follows” and am optimistic that maybe I’ll love his latest, as well. That being said, while we wait for ‘Silver Lake’ to hit theaters later this year, we already know what Mitchell has on his slate moving forward and it sounds pretty awesome.

THR is reporting that Mitchell is going to take the rare role as screenwriter-only for his next project, “They Hear It.” The horror/thriller is to be helmed by Julian Terry, who is the filmmaker responsible for the short of the same name, which Mitchell is adapting. The premise is about a mysterious presence called “The Sound,” which bestows terrible consequences on those unlucky souls that hear it. THR says the film is said to be using Alfred Hitchcock’sThe Birds” and Stephen King’sIT” as touchstones.

This isn’t the first time that the “It Follows” filmmaker is delivering a script for someone else to direct. Before “They Hear It,” Mitchell also worked on the script for “Man Alive,” which is set to be directed by “Atlanta” and “This is America” helmer Hiro Murai, for his feature-length directorial debut.

As mentioned above, “They Hear It” will be directed by Terry, who has a history with short film but has yet to make the jump to feature film. And who better to provide the blueprint for your debut than Mitchell?

There’s no cast or release date set for the film, which is being produced by Legendary Entertainment and The Picture Company, but we can expect to hear more from that in the coming months.
