Olivier Assayas is one of those filmmakers that we will give a shot, no matter the film. Over the years, he’s put together an incredible filmography of acclaimed titles, such as “Personal Shopper,” “Clouds of Sils Maria,” “Carlos,” and “Summer Hours.” And just recently, his latest film, “Non-Fiction” debuted at the Venice Film Festival and is receiving pretty great reviews. But even with a new film making the festival rounds this season, Assayas is already beginning work on his newest project, “The Wasp Network,” and he’s enlisted an incredible cast.

Penelope Cruz, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal have all signed on to star in the newest film from the French writer-director. These actors join the already-cast Edgar Ramirez in the spy drama. “The Wasp Network” follows a group set up by the Cuban Government to spy on anti-Castro organizations during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Based on the novel, “The Last Soldiers of the Cold War: The Story of the Cuban Five,” written by Fernando Morais, the film will follow the group of 14 spies and their eventual apprehension by United States authorities.
Cruz is probably the biggest name of the group and is known as one of the biggest actresses in the world. Recently, she was seen in the critically-acclaimed FX series, “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” However, she’ll also be seen in the upcoming “Everybody Knows,” which debuted at Cannes, as well as “Dolor y Gloria” from filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar and “355,” which features an all-star cast of actresses including Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o.
Garcia Bernal recently wrapped up his Amazon series “Mozart in the Jungle,” and will be seen in the upcoming film “Museo.” Moura is best known for portraying Pablo Escobar on the hit Netflix crime series “Narcos.”
“The Wasp Network” has no release date, as of yet, but will begin production in the beginning of 2019.
