Despite no greenlight or official announcement, many people expected Warner Bros. to begin production on the solo “The Flash” film in early 2019. However, due to a script that’s not quite ready and ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ it appears that the superhero film is going to be delayed yet again.
According to Variety, WB/DC won’t be ready to film “Flash” by the expected March 2019 start date. The filmmakers involved are still tweaking the script and the studio is concerned that it won’t be done in time. So, to play it safe, WB is going to reschedule production. However, there’s a fairly big complication — ‘Fantastic Beasts 3.’

You see, the star of “Flash,” Ezra Miller, is also one of the stars of the Wizarding World film franchise and the third entry is expected to begin filming in July 2019. As you’re probably well aware, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ is a massive franchise for the studio and there’s no way that film will be delayed. So, that leaves “The Flash” hanging until the end of the year, which means the earliest that the superhero film will begin production is late 2019. The release date will be pushed to sometime in 2021. Sadly, that means fans are almost three years away from seeing the Fastest Man Alive hit the big screen in his first solo adventure.

It’s been quite the saga bringing “Flash” to the big screen. Announced in 2014, “Flash” was originally set for a 2018 release date, following “Justice League” and “Aquaman.” But with the shuffling of directors, as Rick Famuyiwa left the project in 2016, a 2018 release was out of the question. It wasn’t until January 2018 that replacements were found in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, coming off their success with “Game Night.”
But it’s clear that WB is taking its time with the property, as the studio probably learned its lesson from rushing things with “Justice League.” Hopefully, “The Flash” will be worth the wait.
