Netflix might be disrupting movies and doing a good job of doing the same on TV, but Amazon‘s arguably been killing it just as much on the small screen as well, especially when it comes to Awards season. “Transparent” won the the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy (aka “Golden Globe for Best Series” in 2015, that followed with “Mozart In The Jungle” winning Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Comedy and Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Gael Garcia Bernal) and this past September at the 2018, 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” absolutely crushed it.
Starring Rachel Brosnahan (“House of Cards,” where she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination) with Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle, and Tony Shalhoub, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” won five Emmys that night, the most of the night including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Brosnahan), Supporting in both the Actor and Actress category and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
Suffice to say the show has clearly established itself, and Brosnahan, already being touted for bigger movie roles (she’s going to star in the spy drama “Ironbark” with Benedict Cumberbatch in 2019), is on her way to becoming a big star.
Here’s the show’s synopsis if you don’t know anything about this comedy, essentially following a housewife in 1958 New York City who discovers she has a knack for stand-up comedy.
About The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel: In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel’s life is on track- husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what else she’s good at – and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls).
