'Deadpool' Star Gina Carano Added To The Cast Of Disney+ 'Star Wars' Series 'The Mandalorian'

As production on the new “Star Wars” live-action series “The Mandalorian” heats up, we’re beginning to fill out the cast of the Disney+ streaming show. After yesterday’s announcement that Pedro Pascal would take the title role in the series, now comes word there’s another person set to join the galaxy far, far away.

The Wrap reports that actress (and former MMA fighter) Gina Carano is joining Pascal in the cast of “The Mandalorian.” While her role is kept under wraps for now (would you expect Lucasfilm and Disney to have it any other way), Carano seems like a good addition to the series.

“The Mandalorian” follows a lone gunman in the other reaches of the galaxy from the planet Mandalore. The series is set after the fall of the Empire, but before the rise of the First Order.

Carano is probably best known for her role as a villain in “Deadpool.” However, before that, she starred in a variety of action films including “Fast & Furious 6.” Carano was also the star of Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film, “Haywire.” And as alluded to earlier, well before the emergence of Ronda Rousey, Carano was one of the first major stars in the world of women’s MMA.

“The Mandalorian” comes from writer-producer Jon Favreau, and is directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, Dave Filoni, and Deborah Chow. There’s no premiere date for the series, as Disney+ still isn’t officially ready for launch. However, the service is set to launch in late-2019 and it wouldn’t be shocking if “The Mandalorian” was one of its first series.
