You know the saying, “You don’t know what you got until it’s gone?” Well, when news came that Netflix canceled “Daredevil” after it’s much-improved Season 3, fans were up in arms. After the streaming service dropped the ax on Marvel’s “Iron Fist,” people were understanding, if not a little happy. Then came the cancellation of “Luke Cage,” and fans began to worry. And now, with “Daredevil,” people are in full-on panic mode. Is this the end of the Marvel/Netflix relationship? And were ratings (or viewership or whatever Netflix analytics they use) really that bad for “Daredevil?” It just didn’t make sense. Well, according to a new survey, it appears that demand had nothing to do with it.
Parrot Analytics, a company that releases a weekly report about which streaming series are the most “in demand” published the company’s latest results, and to many people’s surprise “Daredevil” is the fourth-most “demanded” series not only on Netflix but when you take into consideration all streaming services.
The top spot went to “Narcos: Mexico,” which recently had its debut on Netflix, so demand was understandable. That series was followed by “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which is nothing short of a massive hit for the company. Number 3 goes to “Stranger Things,” well, because…it’s “Stranger Things.” Then comes Marvel’s “Daredevil.”
And before you think to yourself “Well, that makes sense because of all the talk surrounding the series’ cancellation.” Sorry, but that has nothing to do with it. As the report says, the numbers for “Daredevil” only gained 2% over the previous week (which was before the news of the series’ demise).

So, as many have been speculating, it appears that the reason for the latest Marvel cancellation had little to do with the actual numbers, and probably more to do with behind-the-scenes drama between Netflix and Marvel TV. Perhaps there is something to be said about Disney wanting its superhero toys back in its own toy box. We shall see what happens.
