Jeff Bridges To Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award At Next Month's Golden Globes

Not only will actor Jeff Bridges go down in history as The Dude, but he’s also getting another title to add to his resume – Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient.

Today, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, aka the folks behind the Golden Globes, have announced that Bridges will be the 2019 recipient of the coveted DeMille Award at next month’s awards ceremony. The Cecil B. DeMille Award goes to someone who has given “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” In the most simplest terms, that is exactly what Bridges has done throughout his decades-long career.

“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to bestow the 2019 Cecil B. DeMille Award on Jeff Bridges. Bridges’ brilliant body of work across diverse genres has captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide for more than six decades. We look forward to celebrating ‘the Dude’ and his remarkable career and philanthropic achievements at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards,” the HFPA said (via THR).

Bridges is perhaps most famous for his role as the aforementioned Dude in the Coen Brothers film “The Big Lebowski.” And while you can talk to fans of that film for hours about why Bridges is perhaps the greatest person on the face of the planet, the actor’s contributions to the world of entertainment extends way past his iconic Coen Brothers character.

Back in 1971, in only his second film, Bridges earned an Academy Award nomination (one of seven total) for his work in the film “The Last Picture Show.” His other notable works include (but are definitely not limited to) “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot,” “King Kong,” “Tron,” “Starman,” “Iron Man,” “True Grit,” and “Crazy Heart.” The latter of which earned him his only Oscar win.

Past winners of the Cecil B. DeMille Award include Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and last year’s winner Oprah Winfrey.

The award will be given to Bridges when the Golden Globes airs on January 6, 2019.
