Writer Assures Fans That 'Kitty Pryde' Movie Is Still Happening Despite Impending Disney/Fox Merger

Coming from the writer himself, the Kitty Pryde movie is still on, perhaps even surviving the merger between Disney and Fox. The Mouse has successfully got his paws on Fox, including all the superheroes that go with it. The Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool, which were all under license to Fox, will be returning to their creator company Marvel that was bought by Disney in 2009. When the news spread, many fans wondered what this would mean for the future of ‘X-Men‘ movies. Probably bigger, more crowded ensemble films along the lines of “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Mostly, the concerns are whether upcoming movies will even still exist after the merger. Combining two big companies, each with their own big plans for new and existing superheroes, is really going to screw with scheduling, production, and release dates. “X-Men Dark Phoenix” has already been pushed back a year despite just dropping the trailer, and “New Mutants” apparently is going back to the studio for reshooting. If you need another example, just look at what’s happening with Channing Tatum’s “Gambit.”

Yet at least one fox superhero movie is still moving forward with the green light. Writer Brian Michael Bendis tweeted out yesterday that the Kitty Pryde movie, with the working title “143,” is moving forward with development. Pryde, an X-Man previously played by Ellen Page in a minor role, is a mutant with the ability to phase through walls and objects. A feature movie has been brought up before back when Page was still in the picture, but now it looks like it’s actually going to happen if Disney/Marvel doesn’t change its mind. “143,” which is likely a reference to the comic book issue where Kitty Pryde faces down a demon, is supposed be directed by “Deadpool” filmmaker Tim Miller. Though Bendis gave the confirmation that there is nothing to fear, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any more information on the upcoming superhero film for a while.
