It would appear that “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner has a love/hate relationship with social media. While the young actress has revealed previously that social media has proven crucial for her landing roles, this time the actress talks about the way that Twitter has bitten back, specifically with her role in the mega-popular HBO series.
In a recent interview, Turner revealed that she had spoken with friends about what happens at the end of the final season of “Game of Thrones” because she’s admittedly terrible about keeping secrets. However, what she didn’t expect was that fandom would go after her for spilling the beans and potentially leaking information that could spoil the series for those that are waiting to watch it play out on TV.
So, in a new interview with EW, she talked about that, and revealed how she really didn’t go around telling everyone she knew, as people seemed to think.
“I was on Twitter and saw these headlines like, ‘Twitter followers are being so mean to Sophie Turner after reports she told her friends the ending of ‘Game of Thrones,’’” she said. “The truth is I’ve only told two people. It’s not that many. To be honest, I don’t read many of the mentions on Twitter because there’s normally quite a bit of hate. Everything I say will always have some negative reactions so I’m not surprised.”
Turner isn’t the only ‘Thrones’ actor to reveal that they spoiled the ending for someone. Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, revealed in an interview that he told his wife (and former ‘Thrones’ actress) Rose Leslie the ending of the show. But he didn’t get nearly the same reaction as Turner did for her leak. And the actress seems to have an explanation for this double-standard.
“The people love Kit Harington, he can do no wrong,” Turner joked. “He’s the people’s prince!”
The final season of “Game of Thrones” premieres on April 14. And that date also marks the beginning of the social media explosion where everyone will throw out theories and attempt to guess the ending (which will hit TV screens on May 19). So tread carefully ‘Thrones’ fans. A
