'My Son' Exclusive Trailer: Guillaume Canet & Mélanie Laurent Search For Their Missing Son In New Thriller

One of the most exciting plots used in film revolves around the desperation that leads people to do things they never would have in search of their missing child. Denis Villeneuve tackled the plot beautifully with his film “Prisoners.” One of Mel Gibson’s most iconic roles comes from a similar film, “Ransom.” And now, filmmaker Christian Carion keeps the tradition alive with the new French thriller “My Son.”

In honor of the film’s upcoming May release, we’re thrilled to present an exclusive look at the trailer for “My Son.” As described above, the film follows the extreme lengths that one father will go to find his missing 7-year-old son after he disappears while at camp. And as seen in the trailer, the father (played by the always-great Guillaume Canet) will do just about anything to find his child.

“My Son” stars Canet, who is probably best known as one of the best French actors working today, as well as the filmmaker who brought you “Tell No One.” He’s joined by acclaimed actress Mélanie Laurent in the film.

As mentioned, the thriller is directed by Carion. Many people are familiar with his Oscar-nominated film, “Joyeux Noel.” He also recently helmed the 2015 film, “Come What May.”

“My Son” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 10.

Here’s the synopsis:

My Son is a powder-keg portrait of a man driven to extremes to protect his son. After years of putting his career above his family, Julien has found himself with a failed marriage. One day he receives a distressing message from his ex-wife that their seven-year-old child has disappeared while at camp. When authorities provide little help, Julien takes matters into his own hands and begins the treacherous search alone. Driven to reunite his family, he will stop at nothing to get his child back. Christian Carion places long-time collaborator Guillaume Canet in unique shooting conditions to create this searing portrait of a man out of control, a father forced into violence by his desire to protect his son.
