'The Virtues' Trailer: 'This Is England' Filmmaker Shane Meadows Unleashes First Look At Intense New Drama Series

Shane Meadows is a filmmaker that hasn’t fully broken through with general audiences outside his native England, but he should be known by most film fans, at this point. He’s probably best known for his incredible film “This is England,” and it’s subsequent TV series sequels. But with his next TV project, he’s tackling a new story, and it looks like Meadows hasn’t missed a beat.

The Virtues” is a drama that follows a guy who returns to his family and hometown with hardly any memories of who he is and what he did before. Through interactions with his family and other people, memories flood back revealing that not everything in his past was good. In fact, there’s probably some dark reasons why he’s repressed much of his childhood. The quick trailer for the series paints a story that is going to feature the great characters and dark themes that are staples of Meadows work, but in a new thriller that takes it to the next level.

There’s no word on the US or worldwide release for “The Virtues” at this point. One can only hope that Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, or one of the other streamers will take a break from spending millions and millions on signing the biggest stars and just write a check to Meadows for this series.

“The Virtues” is coming soon to Channel 4. However, if you haven’t explored his previous work, you should most definitely check out “This is England” and its sequels. Then you’ll begin to understand what all the excitement is about.
