Despite many fans objections to the final season of “Game of Thrones” (which hundreds of thousands seemingly very upset), the creative duo of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been the hottest ticket in Hollywood over the summer. After wrapping up their ‘Thrones’ commitments, studios began lining up and throwing huge offers are the pair to snatch them up for exclusive development deals. Well, the dust has settled and we know where Benioff and Weiss will call home for the foreseeable future.
Deadline is reporting that Benioff and Weiss have signed a multi-year exclusive contract with Netflix. According to the report, specific numbers are not revealed but the deal is said to be in the “9-figure range.” That’s a lot of zeroes. In fact, 8 zeroes, if you’re keeping track. That means the bottom estimate you can throw at the deal is $100,000,000. Damn.
Of course, we can’t be too shocked, Netflix has thrown out similar deals with producers like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy in the past, so this is basically par for the course if you’re a hotshot filmmaker that wants to call the streaming service home. And though the last season of ‘Thrones’ is going to be debated for years to come, there’s no denying the fact that the series has been the biggest thing on TV for a while and the duo are next going to work on “Star Wars” films.
