Sure, there are dozens of incredible, highly-anticipated films scheduled to have premieres at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. And though “film” is in the name, TV is also set to make a mark at this year’s TIFF, thanks to some World Premieres of some series from great filmmakers and stars.
TIFF just announced the TV series that will be screening as part of the Primetime section of the festival. The highlights include the World Premiere of “Mrs. Fletcher,” starring Kathryn Hahn. The HBO series comes from creator Tom Perotta, the man behind “The Leftovers,” and is directed by none other than Nicole Holofcener, a favorite around these parts. Another series that caught our eye is “Briarpatch,” which stars Rosario Dawson and is created by “Legion” writer Andy Greenwald. That series is directed by Ana Lily Amirpour.
“Episodic television continues to push the cinematic envelope in terms of how stories are presented and consumed by audiences,” Geoff Macnaughton, Lead Programmer of Primetime and Director of Industry, said. “I’m thrilled by the opportunity to spotlight some of the finest global storytellers working in the industry today. Each series embodies why audiences find the medium so compelling, while each screening will be an event that provides a unique opportunity to discover a new series with the creators who made it.”
The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival begins on September 5.
