There seems to be a few different types of A-list actors in Hollywood. You have the kind, such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who doesn’t do anything unless there’s a $200 million budget attached and plenty of action. Then you have Leonardo DiCaprio or Joaquin Phoenix, who only work on select films with an interesting premise or quality directors, and couldn’t care less about the spectacle. But then you have folks like Angelina Jolie, who flex both sides of their acting brain, switching from Oscar-bait roles to Disney in a heartbeat.
Jolie, in recent years, has not been shy about landing in some major franchises. She’s done the Disney princess thing, but as the villain, in the “Maleficent” franchise. And it was just announced that she’s earned her first superhero costume for Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Eternals.” So, the next natural progression is “Star Wars,” right?
Well, when she was asked about this potential future (via MTVNews), she agreed that it makes sense. And according to the actress, she even posited the question to “Star Wars” director J.J. Abrams.
You know what? Talk to J.J. [Abrams],” said Jolie. “I cornered J.J. in the hallway…I’ve said to him, ‘I have no idea why I can’t be in ‘Star Wars’’’
Perhaps Jolie was misinformed, but for as powerful as Abrams is in the current generation of “Star Wars” filmmaking, the person she really should be talking to is Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm. And if she talks to any filmmakers, perhaps she should talk to director Rian Johnson or the duo of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as all three of those men are working on films set in the galaxy far, far away.
Obviously, if she’s actually interested, Lucasfilm could do a lot worse than to have an Academy Award-wining actress like Jolie on board.
